Hey guys, first of all thanks for everyone for commenting. I've picked a winner at this point and they've been notified by pm that they've won. I know I said I was going to close the contest at some point late sunday night but I've gotten so many good answers at this point that I'm going to close it early

I was intending to make all my free coaching giveaways not be poker oriented as it does give a slightly unfair advantage to those who play higher...

That being said, I remember at the time thinking his raise was sort of suspicious given the preflop/flop/turn play (less so the flop obviously) and then sort of realizing how important the Kh was. It then occurred to me this might be an interesting teaching point and figured instead of just posting about how I made some hero call I figured I'd turn it into a free session giveaway.

Anyway, to briefly answer the questions I asked.

1) The importance of the Kh cannot be understated. He's repping almost exlusively Qxhh combos on the river which are QhJh and KhQh with the some discounted QhTh as well. Thus our hand is favorable to a hand like Aces up because we are blocking 1 of his 2 or 3 value combos and aces up, while being stronger in absolute value is equal in relative strength to KhKx.

2) The most important card in our hand would be the Qh. It blocks almost all of his value combos.

A couple other important notes to address: Yes, he can have some lower flushes... It's not impossible. I would ideally like to block as many hearts as possible... that being said it's a hero call for a reason. However, I still have the advantage of blocking one of the most obvious hands for him to play this way.

Also, as a result of a few comments on the last blog post I'd like to clear a few things up.

I'm not trying to teach people to play this way. I also never claimed to have played every street well. Turn is almost certainly a clear bet and the river is most likely a fold to the BB bet (though I do have some reads on that specific villain that make my call probably just slightly bad instead of really bad.) Unfortunately, I still make mistakes when I play. Additionally, I have reads on CO villain that he is a good reg and more than capable of bluffing in spots like this. I don't even know about the final river call. It could potentially be bad here too. The fact that he did show up with a bluff in this spot probably lends some support to the idea that the 2nd river call isn't that bad but we will never know. If I knew for certain I was going to win it wouldn't have been much of a hero call would it?

Instead of posting a less than helpful comment proclaiming how big of an idiot I am why not see this for what it is. I'm giving away a free coaching session to someone and I'm trying to teach people about blockers to a value range.

Now, I have no idea who everyone here is. If you're pretty good then most of this stuff more than likely seems pretty obvious to you. I notice that sauce didn't come in here posting a comment to try and win a free session. More than likely that's due to the fact that a) he has no idea who I am, b) he doesn't need coaching from me, c) He already understands this stuff better than I do. That being said, not everyone who frequents this site plays mid or high stakes. Some more than likely don't understand the importance of having a blocker to his value range, or even what that term means. So, if you feel you're in the "Sauce" category of people who understand about blockers and feel you're better than I am and don't need coaching then feel free to simply stay away and let some people who may have an interest in free coaching and actually have to think a little bit to come up with an answer try and win.

Sorry if you didn't enjoy how this went down. Other will be non-poker related in the future.

One last comment. I also agree that it's more than likely BB folded the best hand here. To be quite honest at the time I nearly fast folded once the raise came in and BB started tanking, but then I realized that if BB folded I had the opportunity to make a hero call that I thought would work a decent % of the time.

Once again, thanks to all those that participated and keep an eye open for future ones which I promise most of which will not be poker oriented.

Also, if you weren't the winner, but it's unclear to you why the Kh is important here, please make sure you read through some of the posts and understand why it is. At least that way you'll still have gotten something out of it.

Haters Gonna Hate

This saying has become a cliche, but it's still 100% true and I've had to remind myself of it lately. I've had a few conversations with some friends lately (more acquaintances than friends) that were beyond tilting. Mostly them taking cheap shots at me about living with my parents, money, and Thailand stuff. I don't know, I guess they think I have regrets about going or something, and they are sorely mistaken. It was by far best time of my life, and it doesn't matter if life sucks now (life is still pretty good btw, just making a point).

Then the whole "I would've done it this way" comments came up which are the most annoying. Along with the "how much money did you have before you left?" and "how much money did you spend?" or "how come you don't have any money now?". I don't know maybe I had no reason to be upset, but they seemed like kind of intrusive questions to me. Like I might as well just send them screenshots of my bank statements everyday so they know how much I make, what I spend it on etc. It's similar to the whole poker question of "how much did you make? but how much did you lose?" It's none of your (insert 2-3 bad words here) business you little (insert more bad words here). I actually don't mind telling certain people these things, but I just think it's very inappropriate to ask.

So after being upset about all the comments and ridicule, I just remembered that they were extremely jealous of me when I was out there, now in order to feel better about themselves they have to imagine I made a terrible decision. At the time I just kinda smiled and let it roll off my shoulder. And honestly that's probably the best way to do it, because haters are gonna do nothing but hate. Ignorant people are too ignorant to waste my time arguing with. Not that I'm super smart, but you get my point hopefully.

So that's the end of that rant, needed to get that off my chest ;) . Not too much else has changed. I've been putting in 50+ hour weeks at work, it sucks but I'm making money... if you want to know how much money feel free to ask :p . I've broke even in about 20 hu sng, and decided I need to watch a few vids to get the poker brain working again. I was by far a favorite to win all of those, but it def felt like I wasn't on top of my game (go figure after not playing for nearly a year). So I will likely do that this weekend.

I found a place online that buys used dvds and does free shipping. I just finished entering in all my barcodes and boxing everything up, I should get ~$65 for the 100 or so I shipped which is fine. It took me 45 minutes for the whole process. If I did it individually I might make triple that, but it would take me years.

I'm trying not to spend any money this weekend, it's one of the only wknds I don't have plans for a while. It would be nice to just sit around and watch movies, play poker, and just do fun free things for a change. It's been flooding here, so not sure bball courts will be dry enough, but I will check tomorrow. That's about all the ranting/rambling I have for now. I have a bunch of pics to share, but I haven't uploaded them to the lappy yet. I guess I'll share a nice Chicago skyline photo I took whilst visiting Navy Pier.

and oh yeah Blackhawks won the cup which is awesome!!!!!

Selling Main Event Action

Hey guys, I'm Jonathan Epstein and I'm looking to sell 60% of my main event action at 1.2 or 1.15 if 10% or more.

So I played on fulltilt under the screen name: jonstermonster. Played a mix of everything from cash, sngs, and tournaments. Had a couple of final tables playing 1k Mondays and a chop for 1st in friday night fight. I feel every comfortable with short stacks, mid stacks, and playing deep. I've also played a mix of 9max, 6max and HU and feel very confident at all (especially now).

Over the last year I've played on True Poker (canyouimagine) and Lock Poker (thedanger). I can post graphs for those sites, but I have however lost my graphs from Fulltilt (jonstermonster) unfortunately. I've also been playing at commerce, mostly 5/10 which a handful of sessions at 10/20. With very good results at 5/10 and essentially break even over the small sample at 10/20. I've also played a few weeks at Wynn playing 2/5 with very(!) good results.

**Also just wanted to mentioned that if my graph looks sort of weird at the beginning on True Poker (canyouimagine) it's because this is just when I first started to use pokertracker so it didn't import maybe 5-7k hands that I played on there and started when I was playing some dude 10/20hu (short session).

I'm going to be looking for chase or cash in Vegas. Sadly I'm new to 2plus2 and don't have permission yet to post in a variety of their threads, so giving this a shot. Please PM me with any and all questions. Thanks. Cheers.

Unforseen Complications

x-posted from http://uptodan.wordpress.com

Since Friday last week I have been suffering from the after effects of what most likely was heat exhaustion. On the night of Thursday the 27th of June it was very hot and at this point in time I had not yet adjusted to the prevalent heat conditions currently in Portugal (as I am writing this, they predict temperatures of up to 40 degrees celcius for the day). I was sleeping in a closed room with no air-conditioning and it was essentially like sleeping in an oven. I believe I woke up potentially dehydrated, dripping with sweat and with a headache. Like a boss I proceeded to work out and drink a lot of water and actually felt pretty well after that (retrospectively working out was not the best of ideas). However, for the next couple of days I felt overly hot most of the time. I would have a mild burning sensation on my skin that would come in waves. My symptoms were very deceptive as it was also hot outside, so when I would ask people whether or not they thought it was hot and that I thought I might have a fever, they naturally agreed and dismissed that I could be feeling hot due to sickness. Also, during my sessions of poker, I would feel as though I was tilted due to the heightened sensation of feeling hot and it would also correlate with my results.

Over the years, I have learned to think that I am fine and that I don't need medical assistance most of the time. I believe this is due to experiences I have had with doctors when I was growing up, with them telling me that I am fine when I thought I was not. In any case, after seeking input from friends and family, I came to the conclusion that I may be suffering from heat stroke, which can be fatal and lead to brain damage. Brain damage was all I needed to hear really, so I phoned up the hospital CUF Descobertas near Parque das Nacoes here in Lisbon and arranged to see a doctor. They couldn't get me in soon enough though, so I ended up going to the ER to get checked out. I was sort of dreading this, because of having to speak Portuguese and dealing with my health insurance which I have never used before, but I really didn't see any other reasonable option. It turned out well in the end, I was able to speak to a doctor that could speak English. His initial diagnosis was that I may be suffering from heat stroke, but that I wasn't dehydrated or had a fever, which were good signs. They did some blood analysis which showed up okay, as they were considering giving me some nutrients per IV that I may have lost due to excessive sweating. I ended up being prescribed electrolytes that can be taken orally, dissolved in water and Paracetamol to deal with the feeling of excessive heat. I am also to avoid heat and strenuous exercise for the week to come.
A funny side note: The doctor said muscle enzymes in my blood would indicate that I am suffering from heat stroke, which I guess is a medical way of saying: "Do you even lift bro?". To clarify, muscle enzymes in the blood are common in people who practice weight resistance training.

All this being said, this definitely made me think about planning for the unknown. You really need to plan for the randomness/misjudgement factor. What I've had to deal with is not something I was able to anticipate. I feel as though I am above average resilient to heat (by standards of the countries that I have previously lived in) and have been in very hot climates before (chiefly Nevada and Dubai). I have however always had sufficient air-conditioning in those regions, so I've always had that escape from the heat. In my apartment I sort of have to endure the heat. I even have some air-conditioning in my place. There is an A/C unit in my living room and I have a reasonably strong table fan from Rowenta. Due to this, I am considering looking for a new place at the end of my current renting contract, which ends at the end of October. I need at least a place with solid blinds if I plan to block out the impact of direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day.

Another effect of the heat and my living situation is that I am sort of forced to alter my sleeping rhythm. It makes sense for me to be in my apartment during the coolest hours of the day and to also work during these hours. I believe the lowest heat is at 3 am and I should sleep with my windows open due to insufficient cooling, but also to allow the heat to dissipate in my apartment. Doing this will lead me to waking around sunrise, which is currently at 06:19. If I go to bed around 1-2 am on average, this could leave me tired on some days, so what I will then do is take 20 minute naps as I see fit. This may not be ideal for me, however I am happy to sleep this way as things currently stand. I'd much rather sleep 5 hours well than longer and poorly.

All in all, I am starting to feel a bit better again. The burning sensation has gone and my overall perception of heat seems to be improving. In a way I am happy to have made these experiences and am grateful to have learnt something in the process.

Win Another free coaching session (Skill Free!)

Alright guys, it's been a while.

I swear I will get around to doing an actual poker update soon enough but between grinding/coaching/making videos/looking through student's HHs/looking through HH's posted by other msnl guys I talk with/ real life I've been pretty busy.

Either way, now that I've done the free session I gave away last time I'm going to give away another one.

So, here's what you need to do.

Post a link to a song I might like (youtube is probably easiest).

That's it that's all.

The contest closes once 39 people have posted links on my 2p2 goals thread and 13 have posted here or by saturday at 11:59 pm. EST.

(Link to 2p2 thread: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/17...7/index23.html)

At that point I will assign those 39 people each one card from a new deck of cards (and 13 people who post on this leggo blog will be assigned to a card as well to get me to 52).

I will post the names and the cards you've been assigned up onto this thread. At that point I will go buy myself a new deck of cards and get one of my housemates to pick one out. (If I can figure out how to make the video etc). If that seems overly complicated I'll just scrap the video and simple post the winning card/winning person at which point that person can pm me to collect their free coaching session.

Caveat: You have to post something similar enough to one of these songs.

Aranda: Undone
Breaking Benjamin: Breathe
Pop Evil: Purple
Adelitas Way: Alive
Bush: Glycerine, Machinehead

Essentially, I'm not particularly picky. I just don't want any rap or anything from the 1970s. If you post something of that sort it's not going to qualify.

I'm not going to be an asshole about it. As long as I think you actually gave it a little thought you don't have to be worried. But if you post Jay-Z or 50 Cent it's not going to count.

Cheers all.

This same message has been posted on the 2p2 thread where 39 spots are available.

Side note: If you're not interested in coaching, feel free to post a song and just exempt yourself from the coaching. Multiple songs are also encouraged but won't win you extra entries.

Leggo!

Today I am finally ready to say on here that I dropped out of university again which -I admit- is lame to say the least, epecially because I am currently running 0 for 3. It wasn't easy, I really did believe I was going to see it through this time and considering the whole ratio-based decision making vs feel-based decision making an a-typical outcome for me. In the passed I made big moves almost exclusively on pro's and cons, arguments, and reason, which in this case would clearly dictate to finally finish a degree. I am changing like that, also in all honesty I've been fairly unhappy throughout the whole going-back-to-school-experience knowing there are other ways to take care of things. I think the only way I am ever going to finish anything is by "burning the boats" as Hernan Cortes did in the 16th century when trying to conquer Mexico. He ordered his men to burn the boats in which they got there, this left his army with just 2 options; either win the war or die trying. He took away the exit strategy, the easy way out and he prevailed.

I may, or may not need to burn the poker boat or any money making alternative at some point in the future but for now I am going to try to make this work. Fact is I feel like a different person. I moved to Sicily, Italy almost 2 months ago and I am loving it. The climate is great, I met a bunch of nice people with whom I hang out a lot, the beach and everything it's all good. I ll throw in some pictures in the end. Unfortunately The business end of this whole trip has been rough. Most tilting is easily the part where I pay a small fortune for really crappy limited internet that is oftenly not working at all. Anyway I am still in the process of getting residency here in order to play on the soft .IT sites, but let me tell you; Italian bureaucracy is a bitch. I knew this beforehand, and I've been extremely patient jumping through all kinds of hoops they like to throw at me but honestly I don't think I would be able to pull it of with great help of a guy named Johnny from the offictio anagrafe. He came through pretty big more then once with contacts, adresses, intructions and tips in general. He really went out of his way to help me. Now that I think about it I may need to get him something..I also got great help from this waitress girl I met. She has been intreperting for me while dealing with the most stuburn and unhelpfull dickheads I've ever met in my life. It's cool though I should be -and I hope I am not jinxing it- fairly close. All I need to do is register with a family docter, which I know is gonna be harder then it sounds, due to the by now oh so familiar language barrier, but when I do I should be able to get the residency papers and ID

I am not sure yet what I am going to do afterwards. Money is tight these days in combination with the valueable stuff I learned throughout the last few months it seems reasonable to create a thread on 2+2 to see if there's any interest from people to come down here to set up Ipoker.it or Stars.it accounts. Just recently I hosted someone for the first time through couchsurfing.org and found it a very nice way. I would just let them stay in my apartment and help them through the entire process with as a bonus they get to meet some different people, see Sicily, enjoy the nice wheather and great food. Otherwise I'll just rent out 1 or 2 of my accounts and be done with it. We willl see how it goes. First I am gonna touristguide the shit out of Palermo next week for a friend of mine that is coming over, I am looking forward to that, Life is good!

Listened to half this album and so far it's meh... but their single "Alive" is pretty good

I've written and deleted several openings to this blog, and can't figure out why I'm trying so hard. I guess I aim to please.... but really as I mentioned in my previous blog haters gonna hate, so whatevs, im just gonna blog.

I was playing super turbo sngs for fun... then they got less fun when i hit a cold streak. I will probably play some tomorrow, been thinking of doing 6 max again, but I'm pretty sure that will only bring back pain :D . It would be nice to be a winning plr again, even if it's micro-micros (like 5nl and 10nl), i usually end up donking around too much. I'm not sure I can commit much time to working on my game, but I can commit to working on committing time to working on my game.

I met Fuser from the Leggo forums in person last weekend (i think that was last weekend). Super nice/cool guy, wish I was able to hang out more. He was in from L.A for... actually i forgot to ask, but sounds like he had a good time. I hear Clayton and Jaymesbond both moved to Chicago, so I might try to meet up with them at some point if they fancy some drinks.

The lady friend I've been showing around Chicago has opted to remain just friends. Wrote me a long girl sized message about how the future is uncertain blah blah so gg. It didn't bother me that much, since I was kind of getting that vibe anyway... but now I don't have to waste more money on her. I have a limited amount of time/money (really bad combo btw, don't recommend it), so I will look into other opportunities.

Speaking of money, I've come up with another budgeting plan of sorts. As long as nothing bad happens, I should have enough money for a decent trip next year. I've been trying to save money for a long time, but something always comes up.... this should change that. I used to be very good with money, but I think that's because I had more of it.... also i picked up some bad money habits in Thailand :D .

I've decided to stay in for a couple weekends. I've been really tired, and spending too much. It sucks staying in sometimes, but I think it's time to regroup and save some dough. I ended up working for my oldest brother today and he paid me nearly double my hourly which was awesome. I've also been playing tennis, which is free and also fun/good exercise. I do have plans on the 27th to go to a free house music festival that also happens to be a mexican food festival... so that's a win win. That's about all i got for now, I had some funny rants I was going to put in here, but as usual I forgot them a day later.

Vegas, 2 years abroad, YTD Recap and looking ahead

Vegas

I've been in Vegas since the beginning of the month. It's been a great time so far - got to see several friends that I haven't seen in a while, and after 6 months in Canada it's nice to be in some actual warm weather with sun, even if it is 110 degrees warmth.

After busting a $1500 event, Katie and I took a day trip to see the Hoover Dam. We both had never seen it, and since it's only 45 minutes away we figured we might as well do it. It wasn't mind-blowing or anything, but it was a quick fun trip and I'm glad we went.

I played Day 1c of the main event. I really was never able to run up a big stack but managed to stay above starting stack and eventually chipped up to 55k. Day 2 was definitely a struggle as well, and I ended with ~45k, around 28 bb's heading into Day 3. For the most part on Day 3 I just played pretty tight and tried to find spots to chip up and resteal. Down to 18bb's or so I shoved 66 over an open and won the flip vs AQo. I chipped up a bit more making a questionable call of an 11bb all in shove, winning with K8s vs KJo vs the same guy I doubled up against previously. I think it should have been close to a correct call vs someone shoving as wide as they should, but given his reaction I think he was most likely a bit tighter than that. I don't think he was too happy with me.

I then was able to win a pretty large pot, defending a 3bet IP with QKo vs the table chipleader, CO vs BB. Flop QQx rainbow, he check/calls a smallish bet. Turn Q. Yahtzee. I had value bet a strong hand relatively large vs him on a previous hand so I made another small bet on the turn to induce, hoping he'd put me on air or a weak value hand. It worked, as he c/shipped AK and I obviously snapped.

That got me up to ~280k, or about 90bb's. I managed to chip up to a little over 300k and was feeling really good. Cashing seemed like a given at this point, and I had visions of making a deep run. Quite a bit premature though, as I got into another really big pot with the chipleader from earlier. I open 9Tdd from EP and call a small 3bet oop. Flop AKQdd. Chipleader had been extremely active but mostly opening pots and defending his bb, not necessarily 3betting much. I decided to take the lower variance route and just c/c 3/5 pot on flop. Turn was a brick and he bet 1/2 pot, 70k. Kinda a sick spot... at this point I had about 200k if I would have folded. I think call, c/shove, and fold were all close but I wasn't sure how high his bluffing frequency was here and wasn't sure if he'd fold a hand like AQ, so I called, which I think is slightly better than folding, given I have some implied odds and think I can make some pretty good river decisions. River bricked and I folded.

An orbit or two later I'm down to 120k, 30bb's. I open CO with JJ and 80k stack shoves sb. I snap call and get shown AKo. Brick Flop, Brick Turn, K river. Now I'm down to 10bbs with 30 mins or so in the day and am in serious trouble of not even cashing. I managed to chip up to 50k by the end of the day so I had 10bb going into Day 4. 666 remained and 648 cashed. There were about 30 players with 12bbs or less so I still had a pretty good chance of cashing. My plan was to play pretty tight but if a good spot appeared to try to chip up. About 10 from the money I had ~45k left and the table chipleader opened from MP, which he had been doing a lot. I looked down at JJ and was prepared to shove when HJ, a player who barely covered me and hadn't played a pot yet shoved. I'm still not entirely sure if folding or calling is correct but I ended up folding, figuring HJ could very well be something like 88+/AQ+ and not really wanting to gamble with maybe 55% equity. I kinda thought the added benefit of doubling up didn't put me in a super position vs the risk of busting but I could be wrong.

Half an orbit later I was down to ~40k and shoved TT from MP. Everyone folded and I was back up to ~50k. Soon we were hand for hand and 2 hands in the bubble busted. I folded a few more hands before shoving A8o and getting called by the bb's Q7s. He hit a flush draw on the flop and rivered it so gg me. Out in 638th for the mincash. My first ever live cash, though I've only played 5 live tournies. Was nice to get all the congratulations from friends and family... even if cashing in the main event isn't really a true test of poker skill, its something that's seen as impressive by the general public so I think it gives me more credibility in a lot of people's view. Which I guess is nice to have in a conversation with a random acquaintance instead of them giving me a blank stare when I just tell them I play online, or they tell me online poker is rigged since they lost with AA vs KK one time.

2 Years Abroad

July 1st was the 2 year anniversary of Katie and I leaving the US for me to play poker abroad. It was an exciting, fun, and at times difficult two years. Not knowing where we would be living from month to month was stressful but I think we both grew up a lot and a lot of times only had each other to rely on so I definitely think we became a lot closer. Starting in Toronto in July 2011, I think we both kinda just hoped the government would be like "Just kidding, you can all come back and play again" and we'd be back in the US by Christmas. That obviously didn't happen, and by the time our 6 months in Canada was coming to an end we really didn't have an idea of where our next move would be.

We tossed around ideas like Thailand, Argentina, and Australia, but finally settled on Malta. I think we weren't really ready yet to adapt to living full time in a place that didn't speak English, and the fact that our friends from Toronto were also open to the idea of moving to Malta was a huge plus. We ended up all renting a nice 4 bedroom place together in Malta - 2 sets of couples and 1 single guy living together... after getting married in 2009 I really never imagined having roommates again. At times it was tough getting used to not having our own space all to ourselves, we definitely got screwed over by our landlord overcharging us for utilities, and the internet was often spotty at best. Looking back though, we experienced a lot of very cool things that 99% of the world will never get to see, seeing as how probably 90% of the people we talked to from home had no idea where Malta even was.

After Malta, we spend the rest of 2012 hopping around some different places in Europe, spending a good chunk of the year in Manchester, England. Towards the end of the year we were once again faced with a decision of what to do next, and the logical step was to move back to Canada. It was nice to be back in familiar surroundings, though this time around we had to face the Toronto winter, something I'm not looking to do again anytime soon. That got us through June and at the end of our 2 years abroad we headed to Vegas.

I definitely think we've grown up a lot these past 2 years. It was kinda weird traveling the world and experiencing different cultures while life went on as normal for most of our friends back home - working 9-5 jobs, getting married, and having kids. Sometimes it felt a bit surreal, like we were living someone else's lives. I don't know what the future will hold, but I feel very fortunate for the things we were able to do and see. In most ways Black Friday was a curse - having a big chunk of money tied up by the government and being forced to uproot my life to pursue my job, but in some ways it gave me the nudge and ability to see the world and make some lifelong friends who had to go through the same things Katie and I did.

YTD Recap and looking ahead

Now that I'm getting ready to leave Vegas I'm really not sure what my next step will be. After spending 6 months in Canada, I'm not sure we'd be allowed back in at this time. There are definitely a lot of places I'd still like to visit, but traveling so much is a bit tiring, and there are so many things that we need to be in the US for this fall - its that time in our lives where it seems like every few weeks another one of our friends is getting married. So being far away just really isn't possible.

So for the time being I plan on taking on students and launching a formal coaching plan that I discussed in one of my previous blogs. I think it will be an ambitious and difficult undertaking, creating specific lesson plans that cover a vast array of topics. I do think I am in a somewhat unique position to offer a valuable service - given that I obviously won't be able to play on Stars I'll have free time and be able to offer a pretty good deal compared to other midstakes coaches. I have a good grasp of poker theory but still fresh enough on the state of today's midstakes games that I can give good advice on exploiting opponents.

Selling FTOPS Action!

$

Okay guys, I know FTOPS is a little ways away (a long ways away for poker players) as it starts on August 4th.

I wanted to get this up early though so people get a chance to see it. I will also post an identical thread in the marketplace of 2p2 once I get my account cleared. Once that is sorted out I will post a link to that thread as well.

So, here's the schedule I plan on playing:

Aug 4th FTOPS 1- 645 Re-entry, SS (3 @ 215)
Aug 4th FTOPS 2- 320 SS, Escalator
Aug 10th FTOPS 16-530 HU Shootout
Aug 11th FTOPS 20- 960 Re-Entry, SS (3@320)
Aug 11th FTOPS 21-215 Escalator, Deep
Aug 12th FTOPS 23-1050 Double Chance/ SS/ 6M
Aug 16th FTOPS 33-215 SS/6M
Aug 18th FTOPS 38- 765 Re-entry, KO, SS, 6M (3@255)
Aug 18th FTOPS Main Event- 3175 (5@635)

This makes the total cost of the package--> 7875*1.26 ~10k after rounding.

That makes 1%--> $100 even and I'll make that the minimum purchase.

I'm looking to sell between 50% and 80%.

So the idea behind the schedule is follows: All the 6M NLH events and the HU Shootout for obvious reasons, and the lower stakes weekend tourneys simply because they should be incredibly soft.

The numbers in brackets indicate the actual tournament buy in and the max number of re-entries I am willing to make. In actuality the likelihood of me using all the re-entries is quite small as I don't plan on re-entering if I'm buying in for only like 30 BBs. I feel I have an absolutely massive edge when stacks >60 bb and then as stacks get shorter the edge evens out again so i don't plan on just donating to the variance fest that is 20 BB poker. I feel like it's likely the total cost of the package will drop to ~7500 after all unused entries are returned.

I will refund all unused entries with MU. And will add all KOs to the prize pool.

If you want to buy a piece, please comment on here and ship the $ to either Apotheosis92 (snail, canada) on stars or LB_Kruk (rock, kingston canada)

WSOP Recap, Goals, and Some Strategy

$

I recently left Vegas and wanted to drop another update. On my plane ride over to Vegas, I decided to write out some poker goals for my time there. I ended up accomplishing all 7 of them, and I will list them below.

[x] first live cash
[x] 5 figure score
[x] 6 figure score
[x] make a final table
[x] profit for time in Vegas
[x] cash a 5k+ buy in
[x] cash > 14%

Entering the main event, I was going to certainly achieve the first 5. However, I was 1 for 13 entering, and had only cashed the 3k shootout (2nd place, see my previous blog). However, I ended up mincash+1'ing the main event, which brought me to 2 for 14, and was my first cash in a 5k+ buy in. I definitely set my goals so they were achievable, ie I wasn't going to make one of my goals to win a bracelet. I certainly ran good to achieve all 7, though.

To date, I have played 16 live tournaments (the two prior to 2013 WSOP were the 10k 6m and main event last year, and I busted both). It's nice to get off to a good start to my live career. It's also to end on a good note. I say this because my plan from now on is to play 1 live tournament a year, and that's the WSOP Main Event. Live is just so grueling, and the hourly achievable in live tournaments is just not that high compared to high stakes cash online. Additionally, you need a way bigger bankroll to travel the live circuit. I have absolutely no interest in ever becoming a live pro/tourney circuit traveler. There is an off chance I'd play something like the PCA or EPT MC if I happen to win a package or buy it with FPPs, assuming the rate for buying the package is better than the rate for buying cash bonuses.

As far as my goals moving forward: they are pretty simple. I just want to play as many hands of the best high stakes poker I can. I don't want to attach any numbers to this, but if I had to pick, I'd say I want to get in 40-50k+ hands of 10/20+ per month. I'd also like to continue improving, putting in work off the tables, and getting better at other games.

Lastly, I just want to talk a little bit about a hand I played on day 2 of the main event. It was at an exceedingly tough table with me, Greg Merson, Olivier Busquet, and Marvin Rettenmeier. I've only been at the table for an hour or an hour and a half, and I haven't played tons of hands. I've been mostly card dead, but I've won most of the pots I have played, and I've chipped up a little bit.

Greg opens UTG+1 at 600/1200/200 to 2700 and I look down at QQ UTG+3. I have about 125k, and Greg has about 320k to start the hand. He is definitely in the top 20 in the tournament at this point. I 3bet him to 6300 and it folds around back to him. He 4bets me to 18,600 and now I am faced with a decision. I can 5bet small/call, jam, or flat. There are a couple of factors to think about here:

1. It's almost the end of day 2, and my day 3 table is likely to be much softer than my current table.
2. It's the main event, so I want to be especially risk averse with my tournament life.
3. Most importantly, how Greg will play here. I'd think he would 4bet AK, AA, KK pretty much always, QQ often, JJ sometimes, and bluffs (like Axs or similar) some of the time. I'm also thinking about how he will play postflop.

Adding up all of these things, I think the best decision is to flat here. Greg's getting it in range here is probably:

Equity Win Tie
MP2 59.79% 57.93% 1.86% QQ+, AKs, AKo
MP3 40.21% 38.35% 1.86% QQ

Even if I make the probably incorrect assumption that he might 4bet/call all in with JJ here, it's still:

Equity Win Tie
MP2 52.63% 51.05% 1.58% JJ+, AKs, AKo
MP3 47.37% 45.79% 1.58% QQ

Note, in either case, I probably have a massively +EV jam pre. The reason I don't take it underscores one of the major differences between tournaments and cash games-- especially a large field, soft tournament like the main event vs. a tough 10/20+ online cash game.

I opt to flat preflop, and the flop comes gin for me in Q85r. Greg continues for 14.5k, I call. Turn 5s putting up bdfd. Greg bets 24.6k, and I call again. The river is Jx. Greg check/folds (with AK).

Greg's line is pretty interesting to discuss here from a game theory point of view. I'd assume that after 4betting pre and 1/3 potting flop and turn, his range is pretty bluff heavy by the time he gets to the river. I suspected this would be the case, which is another reason for flatting preflop. If he gets to the river like this with just QQ+, AKo, AKs, that is 29 total combos. 13 are value, and 16 have nothing. 1 missed a flush draw, and his Axs that he may have 4bet bluffed with preflop may have also missed a flush draw. I'd also whittle his range down a bit, removing QQ almost entirely (there is only 1 combo, and he might trap with it when he has the board smashed). I also don't think he 4bets AK 100% of the time, and probably doesn't bet the turn near 100%. I do think he will almost always bet the flop with {AK, KK, AA, and Axs}. However, despite what I said about the turn, he did barrel AK with no flush draw, so I would guess he is still getting to the river with a bluff heavy range.

With that said, I still think he played this hand well. He didn't bluff the river even when he was at the bottom of his range. Why? It's possible he's thinking about game theory, and realizes he'd be way too bluff heavy if he always triples AK here. But more likely than not, it's because he knows I'm not getting out of line preflop or on the turn. The times I am making a light turn peel, like with JJ-- I just got there. I think Greg correctly ascertained that I almost always have QQ/AA here, and played accordingly on the river. There is an off chance I could have something like AQ, but I probably wouldn't even fold that vs him on this run out. Therefore, even though game theory would dictate he should value bet:bluff 72:28 assuming about 2/3 pot stacks behind, I'd reckon that he actually bluffs this river vs me [0, 5] %.

Note, I mention AA/QQ here because if I did have KK:

Equity Win Tie
MP2 42.81% 40.24% 2.57% QQ+, AKs, AKo
MP3 57.19% 54.63% 2.57% KK

Whereas if I have AA:

Equity Win Tie
MP2 15.92% 13.27% 2.65% QQ+, AKs, AKo
MP3 84.08% 81.43% 2.65% AA

Basically I let him realize a lot of free equity by not reraising with KK. However, with something like AA his equity is reduced drastically, and the equity I let him realize by not reraising is usually made up for by the fact that he will cbet extremely frequently on the flop out of position with very little equity.

This is nothing advanced at all, as we are dealing with very narrow/pretty easy to read preflop ranges in a 9 handed tournament. The truest test of poker skill is playing 6m/HU cash, where ranges are wider and much harder to estimate and then enumerate on the fly. The best players are the ones who can do it the best under time constraints, or learn enough through their experience. Lots of top players have an incredible knack for pattern recognition, even if it's self conscious. People often ask me how to improve or why I'm better than {x}. I think this is certainly something I excel in, and it's not really something you can teach another person. But I think it's something that all great poker players have whether they realize it or not, and the best poker players I've ever played with generally tend to be the ones with the best "spidey senses".

Shedding Weight/Pic of Lady Friend

edit: forgot to post my newest favorite song: Avicii- Wake Me Up

I've had a few requests to share a photo of my former lady friend (well technically we're still friends, but you know how that goes), so I guess I will do so.... it's not a huge deal i guess, she's just kind of shy and wasn't sure if it would be kosher to share.... but it's a fine pic and as popular as I'd like to believe I am, it likely won't be an issue to post it on my small time blog. So here you go, the anticipation was probably not worth it.

This week is absolutely killer at work, almost literally. It's been in the mid 90's with a heat index over 100, and I've been out in the sun everyday.... and on a garage roof for 2 of them. Tuesday was as close to a heat stroke as I've ever come, and as close as I would ever like to. I was feeling super dizzy, luckily there was a/c not far away so I sat in that for a few minutes. I felt like puking the entire time. It'd be hard to stay more hydrated w/o getting work done. I believe I spent $30+ on gatorade this week, going through 2 big ones a day, as well as 6-7 bottles of water. Today I felt like crap and decided to go home after lunch, since most of the 2 person stuff was done, and we were working close to home.

The upside to the heat and hard work, is I've dropped about 5-7 lbs. I haven't eaten much today so hard to know what my true weight is, but i weighed in at 187. It's probably not the healthiest way to shed lbs, but it works. I'm also as red as a lobster despite wearing spf30. I'm definitely not cut out for this manual labor stuff, but it's all I got for now.

This weekend I kind of feel like getting drunk. I've drank once in the last 4 months, and that was when Fuser came to town, and I just had two. It's usually not a great idea for me to get drunk, but I'm having some "get drunk" kind of issues in life, so it just might happen ;) .

I probably won't sleep well again tonight, I'm still not feeling great and still sun burned. This whole blog is very blah, but I needed something to do other than laying in bed.... so i figured I'd sit next to the bed and type. Hope all of you aren't taking your inside jobs for granted, and if you're working outside that sux, i feel your pain.

Insomnia-- What's next?

What do people think about when they're laying in bed? I'm usually a pretty good sleeper, I don't close my eyes until I'm tired and when I do I'm out before I have a chance to figure out the meaning of life. I sleep 8 hours straight with my phone on "do not disturb" (finding this setting was the second most important discovery in my life [1]). I wake up ready to smash the day.

Tonight for some reason I find myself thinking, "What's next?" The cool (although relatively unsettling, I guess) thing is that I don't know [2].

I'm probably going to start by leaving the country at some point in the not so distant future, but maybe travel around the States first [3]. I might come back to Vegas and watch Dave try to win the Main Event [4]. I might want to be around my family for the holidays. I might want to go to Europe. I might just stay in Vegas and try to do one armed pullups and eat cashews and play poker on the Ivey Poker App [5].

I've been indoor rock climbing a bit lately, which is an exciting new endeavor. I'm terrible but improving as quickly as you'd expect someone with my level of coordination and athletic ability. It's fun. Between this and basketball and swimming and racquet sports and hiking and... well, I can't understand why anyone would ever want to get their cardio from just running.

This blog and my writing style in general represent everything that I hate about life-- lack of substance. Not only have I effectively written nothing, but I've done it in a disorganized manner. I'm ashamed of myself, my lack of blogging, and the product I'm now putting out there after such a long layoff. I feel like dogishead [6].

[1] First was when I figured out that in a four door car you can roll down the same side backseat window in order to create a magical vent that sucks air in the frontseat window and out the backseat window, thereby thwarting the wind from smashing into your face and hair... #science.

[2] It's possible I'm alone in this, but I'd rather "interesting" things happened in life than "good" things. Not planning things more than a week or two in advance leads to more of the former, but also forces you to pay 2x what you should for your flights.

[3] The biggest tournament not named the Main Event is happening in Florida at some point. I probably won't go, but I might.

[4] Yea, that Raptor guy made the last table of the Main Event... so he's got that goin' for him, which is nice.

[5] The software isn't actually that bad (but man, Stars has spoiled us all) and I can play stakes as high as I was playing in 2008!

[6] You know, Haseeb, blogger of the year ! (...2011?)

First Blog and HEM Results thus far

Hey All!!!! I'm Adam from Australia, new to leggo. Chose leggo because well 1, i saw someone with a LP shirt on in Vegas and 2, because the micro forums seem active and 3, the overall site is more so cash rather then tournament.
Tournaments annoy me. I don't like having to sit there for a possible 13hrs straight, yes the rewards are good but I can't sit in front of the computer for that long. My longest session to date in hem is like 200mins.

Anyway, I am a 25NL cash player. Decided to get HEM2 to find leaks and log my results. I have logged 25k hands so far, and results have been pretty good. Currently a 21.5BB/100 in all stakes (majority 25NL)

Anyway thought I would throw up my results so far because I won't be playing very much for the rest of the month.

There's a big Non-Showdown win around the 12k hand mark. That was this hand, I think I got the maximum.

Misha, the girl I showed around in Palermo left this morning, it went very fast but if she ejoyed herself as much as I did she had a good week. A few days ago I still needed to show her the one of kind chilling/drinking places that can be found around here, initially it was supposed to be a light saturday night as we had big plans for Sunday. It got more or less out of hand and we decided against taking the train on Sunday morning and instead have a somewhat lazy Sunday to cope with sensations that one could assosiate with alcohol comsumption. It gave me time to talk to some friends and one of them pointed out my misuse of the word often(ly) in my latest blog by quoting Urban Dictionary:

Quote:
oftenly:

A word that is often used by people who often do not know how to properly use the word "often".
This guy has such poor grammar; instead of "oftenly", he should have used a real word such as "often" or "frequently".
I clearly lost all confidence whatsoever so I am just going to old fashion picture blog the rest of this to give an impression, these are taken somewhere between the end of May and now.

I lived in a bunch of houses, since I moved here. I stil hang out with everyone from a previous house. This is about everyone currently here.

Misha, very lively, nice company. She came to visit

Before Misha came over; I was joining 2 of us in the Ramadhan just to see what it's like. The argument convincing me was the greater appreciation for "small" things. They were right, after a whole day of not drinking in 30 degrees celcius, a glass of milk is a-ma-zing! It shows you what it's like to be hungry. I think it would be good for everybody to do it at least once just to gain back some perspective. I took a break from fasting when Misha was here, but I ll continue until Fasil and Bilal leave the end of August.

We would be cooking for hours, just doing something with food is nice

Bilal, hiking, beaching and everything without eating or drinking, he got stung by wasps too that day. Respect to this guy.

Great picture imo, this is Ausra. She is from Lithuania and such a nice person

Rugile and Edvinas, Rugile works for a fashion magazine, she took/edited a lot of these pictures. Edvinas is here for a few weeks to see his girl.

This photo is a bit older from when I went BBQing with people that unfortunately went home already

Backpackers

High stakes poker!

(fltr) Ausra, me, Bilal, Fasil

From the balcony of a previous house, forgot to take pictures of that apartment, it was the only nice one I stayed

Restaurant ran by this enthusiastic guy.

Had to barter for life, which made the American girl we had with us very uncomfortable and it didnt get any better when Fasil was trying to say the food is fantastic but instead told the owner 10 times; "I love you". She is great, it's too bad she's gone.

2 weeks ago Palermo honoured santa Rosalia. Her bones have the power the cure and prevent the plaque, once a year her remains are carried around the city. Its a big deal, it comes with a fair and amazing firework. Easily the best I've ever seen.

No clubs around here, drinking and ocasionally dancing all outside in places like this.

That last photo was taken the Saturday night that messed up traveling the folowing Sunday. Good times, except for the vendor that threw lemons at us for sitting at a table w/o ordering food. I am fairly laid back, but I was certainly close doing something really stupid at the time.

Anyways, let's wrap this up, 4 hours left till sunset and fooooood!!

Leggo Fantasy Football/Work Slowing?

$

I've been primarily listening to trance podcasts the last couple weeks, and it's hard to write down/remember names of good tracks while driving. Here's one that I think is solid and doesn't seem to have hardly any views. First State feat Sarah Howells- Seeing Stars. Probably not my favorite track of recent days, but still good.

Work has actually slowed a bit this week, still getting 40hrs, but I'm not in Chicago til 6pm everyday which is nice. My bro says August might be a tad slow since a big job we were getting fell through. I'd like to make some coin, but school starts in a few weeks anyways, so hopefully there will be time for that. Today we started my parent's bathroom, so that was a nice commute. Probably be here again tomorrow, and I have both Saturday and Sunday off for the first time in a while. Working Saturdays really start to take a toll after the 3rd or 4th one in a row.

I've been feeling down this week, I'm hoping a little time off will lift my spirits. It just sucks because I know in the winter I'll probably be begging for work. Lately I've just felt like everything is pointless and I'll be doomed to this life forever. Obviously that's illogical since every 2 years it seems my life is completely different...I don't really know how to describe the way I feel, I don't like it though. However, like I said, some time off will probably help.

The House of Sol festival is this weekend. At the beginning of the week I didn't even feel like going, despite looking forward to it for 4 months.... I've rested up a bit this week and should be ready to party hearty come Saturday evening. Really hoping to meet some new people, I'm going to try hard to put on my high energy people friendly attitude which nets good results usually. I'm likely going by myself, since 0 of my local friends like house music.... all the more reason to meet new ones ;) .

I am starting an interest list for a Leggo Fantasy Football league here. Will probably be around $25, since I lose every Leggo contest I don't want to invest much more than that. I'm trying to talk my other friends out of playing for money, because they're all nerds and I also lose that one every year. I don't what happened, I used to win these things all the time 2005-2009, and I don't think I've even made the playoffs since then... or at least not passed the 1st round. Probably variance paired with my lack of keeping up w/ football as much as I used to.

That's about all I have. I took some before and during pics of my parents bathroom project, when it's all done I'll probably throw some pics up here. It should look nice, and I'm actually doing a lot more of the work than normal, so maybe I'll feel proud or something.

This was by far the best festival I've been to. I was expecting it to be a block or two long, and it ended up being like 10. About 3 of those were mostly food stands, with different types of amazing Mexican food: flautas, tortas, tamales, tacos, elotes, churros, and more. It was basically food paradise for me. I don't even remember exactly what i ate, but i tried 2 tacos from 3 different places, a tamale, big ass funnel cake, churro, elotes, and possibly some stuff i forgot. It was all so wonderful and fairly inexpensive (aside from the $12 funnel cake).

Here's some of the funnel cakes that were available, i chose the deluxe

it was $12 so i had to try and finish it, i think i did ok

shishkababs and i think some sweet corn patties is what they call those pancake looking things

taco meat/tortillas grilling up, somehow i never got a pic of the tacos on my plate, i think i was too excited to eat them

elote (mexican corn), and the thing on the left looked good, but it wasn't mine.

The other 6 blocks or so were filled with carnival games and rides, as well as different music stages and festivities. I did end up being a sucker at the basketball game, it just looked so easy. After 5 shots for $5 and 3 of them going in and out, I decided not to play anymore.

I think if you spin the wheel you can win the princess

The house music portion of the festival was quite small in comparison. It was just one lil booth on a corner, but it was still pretty sweet. It wasn't really one big dance party, but more just one person would dance while everyone stood in a circle and watched/cheered. Some people were quite amazing, and there were a couple who thought they were good, but their moves did not go along with the beat at all.... like one guy kept doing a slow motion robot thing which i guess was ok, but not when you're listening to fast paced house music. He seemed like a creep too. There were times when everyone was getting down though, as the photos below demonstrate

I probably would've stayed later if I had a crew with me, but I ended up leaving around 9:30pm to catch the 1030pm train back home (which gets me home at 1215am). There were surprisingly very few females, and a ton of dudes. There were like 2 semi-attractive girls that were legal age, but I'm pretty sure they were getting it on with every dude in their little clique. I still had a ton of fun though, the music overall was really good, I don't think i hated any of it.

This was the scene when I left

I'm getting a little burnt out on taking the train and public transport down there all the time. Especially since I drive down there for work most the week too. I didn't really see too many upcoming events worth going to, so I might just chill locally for a while. There's probably only 3 months left of warm-ish weather though, so I'll likely try and take advantage of that.

I do feel a little better after having some time off. I'm still a little discouraged with work and other issues, but at least i'm not a tired grumpy pants now. Leggo fantasy football interest list is up to a whopping 4 now... including me. Hopefully we can get it going, otherwise I guess I'll just save $25 ;) .

coaching for bitcons (again)

Hello all,

Since the summer/wsop is over, been getting back on the online grind, I figured I would reopen this offer. I would like to offer my coaching services in exchange for bitcoins and bitcoins only. I play 5/10 - 50/100 heads up and 6 max no limit along with high stakes MTTs. I coach and stake a small stable of players who started with little to no experience, and now are playing mid to high stakes and have won over $400k combined already this year. I am confident that I am one of the best at analyzing and breaking down poker overall, and that I am probably the best available coach for anyone at low stakes looking to move up quickly. I normally would not offer coaching for pay, but I want to offer a unique services to promote and stimulate the bitcoin economy, and this is the only way I know how.

My rate will vary based on the game and stakes you play, and the number of sessions you want to book. PM here or on 2+2.
